FotoNostrum Portrait Award 2021

FotoNostrum Looks For Portraits Made By Photographers That Are: BOLD, ORIGINAL, AWARE, UNCONVENTIONAL, CREATIVE, MOTIVATED.
We believe that an Award is as significant as the quality of its judging team. This is why we have invited a group of seven jurors that have in common to be master portrait photographers. Selected images in this Portrait Award will be chosen and backed by masters with different selection criteria. However, all will be focusing on five main aspects of the photograph: concept, execution, boldness, creativity and emotional impact, making the viewer think and feel what the image is transmitting.
The Jurors of the 2021 edition are Adam Ferguson, Art Streiber, Barbara Davidson, Julia Fullerton-Batten, Justine Tkallinks, Sandro Miller, and Steve McCurry.

Kuala Lumpur International Photoawards 2021 Portrait Prize

Kuala Lumpur International Photoawards 2021 Portrait Prize

The Kuala Lumpur International Photoawards [KLPA] is an annual global portrait photography prize seeking the very best and fresh entries from photographers of all levels in two main categories – Single Image open and a Project-based or themed category. Initiated in 2009, KLPA is recognised as a significant and vital award in the photography calendar, supporting and rewarding contemporary portraiture practice especially in the South East Asian region.
The Single Image Theme for 2021 is Sense of Self. Many of us have been self-isolating at home over the last 12 months. How have these externally imposed restrictions affected our sense of self?
As humans, we are in constant need to interact, relate and communicate with others and these actions define our individual identity and sense of self; through the choices we make and the actions we take. In the Single Image Theme Category, KLPA is seeking stand-alone artistic and creative interpretations of this theme, through self-portraits or portraits of other people.
How do you define yourself or someone else? What are the traits and characteristics that make a person who they are? How can you photograph these ‘selfs’ and make them stand out as an individual in a creative and meaningful way? Portraits can delve deep into a person’s psyche and reveal what is superficially masked on the surface.
Following a great success last year, the 2021 jury will again be selecting the ten best proposals and award USD$1,000 each to the three photographers with the most deserving projects. This year priority is given to young and unrepresented photographers who may require extra funding to fulfil their projects or cover living expenses due to the pandemic restrictions. There will be no theme; however, we just want to see visually strong human interest stories which are portraiture-based.

The International Portrait Photographer of the Year

The International Portrait Photographer of the Year

The International Portrait Photographer of the Year is a global competition for professionals & amateurs purely for the showcase of portrait photography. We aim to be the gold standard for portrait photography worldwide.
There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing your photos published alongside the world’s best. And the International Portrait Photographer of the Year Awards book is a real book – printed on paper and bound between hard covers, but of course, you will also be able to see the wonderful flip-book presentations here on the website. Being published is a mark of success!
This is our first year of the International Portrait Photographer of the Year Award and we’re following a similar philosophy to our successful International Landscape Photographer of the Year Awards (now in its eighth year). And because we want to create a book of ‘contemporary’ photography, we’re not interested in old chestnuts that have won awards years ago, we want to see what you’re capturing and processing now. That’s why your entries must have been captured after 1 January 2019 (so, within the last 28-odd months).
The main aim of our Award is to be one of the Top 101 portrait photographs of the year. This gives you a place in our exclusive book which is published online and can be purchased as a ‘real’ hard-cover paper publication as well (it’s proudly printed by Momento Pro).
There is US$10,000 in cash prizes for the top three photographs and top three photographers (requiring a portfolio of at least four entries), plus a printed copy of the book from Momento Pro. And there are five special subject prizes winning a print from Created For Life!

Natural Landscape Photography Awards

Natural Landscape Photography Awards

The competition aims to represent landscape photographers who recognize the power that comes from truthful depiction of the natural world. Whilst other competitions may allow complete freedom in digital manipulation, this competition is for photographers who choose to work within the more traditional bounds of the medium, while still expressing themselves creatively. It addresses the idea that the unique quality photography has over other artistic mediums is its grounding in reality. The competition showcases the skill of these photographers in revealing the wonder of the natural landscape.
One of the most powerful aspects of a great landscape photograph is its ability to transport the viewer to relive a moment in time, distant location, or smaller scene, through the eyes of the photographer. This helps the viewer to engage with the subject matter, understand the relationships the photographer wanted to express, and allow photographs to support the case for conservation.
By constraining our photographs to represent the natural world in a truthful manner, we create trust in our artform’s unique position to pair real experiences with artistic creation. This does not preclude the use of editing tools such as Photoshop which, when used sensitively, can enhance the viewer’s experience without misleading them.

NYC4PA Call for Entry – ARCHITECTURE 2021

NYC4PA Call for Entry – ARCHITECTURE 2021

Architecture is defined as the art or science of building, often with a focus on habitable structures. Great architects like Gehry, Wright, and Gaudi come to mind as well as famous buildings like the Sydney Opera House and the Disney Music Hall in LA. But architecture can be much broader that habitable buildings. Consider the Eiffel Tower, the pyramids in Egypt and interiors like the main hall at New York’s Grand Central Station. Gardens can have a fundamental architecture as can other carefully planned spaces, and skylines may represent a collection of similar or different types of architecture.
Send us your vision of architecture with images that represent any of the facets mentioned above or another interpretation you envision. Whole structures and architectural detail are all welcome.
As with all calls, all 2D photographic art is accepted.

NYC4PA Call for Entry – ABSTRACT IMAGING 2021

NYC4PA Call for Entry – ABSTRACT IMAGING 2021

Abstract art is art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality, but instead use shapes, colors, forms and gestural marks to achieve its effect.
The early days of photography centered on true to life imagery i.e. family portraits, images of streets, towns, mansions… Over time photographers expanded their vision to more moody images, ultimately to where photography is today; an all encompassing art form, generated by camera and lens, and producing a vast sampling of imagery from reality to less recognizable abstracts.
This call is about the abstracts; those images that are not instantly identified as that person, that thing, etc. It doesn’t matter if you photograph something abstract or create the abstraction through photographic processes. Macro shots, close ups of graffiti, fanciful post processing manipulations or just photographing something at an angle that disguises it – they all work.
As with all NYC4PA calls all 2D photo mediums are welcome.

MONOCHROMERIFIC 2nd edition

MONOCHROMERIFIC 2nd edition

Photography was born black and white, and some photographers choose to continue this tradition, while working on evolving the visual aesthetics of this raw art form. From an artistic viewpoint – color depicts reality. Black and white is an interpretation of reality.
Try and describe the feelings black and white photography evokes and you will come up with words like classic, bold, raw and natural. Whether it’s  capturing the texture of an object or seeing the form, shading, pattern or tone, black and white photography will give you a grater appreciation for life little details. Black and white photography is an interpretation of the world around us in differences of light values. Black and white is one way of moving away reality to infuse your work with aesthetics and obtain a work that can be considered art.

NYC4PA Call for Entry – PRIMARY COLORS

NYC4PA Call for Entry – PRIMARY COLORS
RED, YELLOW, and BLUE tubes of paint are the basic building blocks for all the colors of the rainbow. They also stand alone, individually, as strong primary color artistic elements.
Send us your images where one of these colors stands out as a critical element of your photographic composition.  You decide which of the three colors RED, YELLOW or BLUE is central to each image you submit and select the category that matches.
The number of possibilities is vast and includes black and white photographs with a single point of color, red, yellow or blue monochromes, or any image where one of these PRIMARY COLORS stands out as a focal part of the photograph. Is the blue sea what catches your eye, a red clown nose or maybe a big yellow school bus? Have you modified a print to be all shades of red? This is a theme to have fun with.

The Frank Hurley Photography Awards

The Frank Hurley Photography Awards

The Frank Hurley Photography Awards is an international competition to find the best in new photography honouring the spirit and adventurous career of this iconic Australian photographer.
James ‘Frank’ Hurley was an Australian photographer, film maker and author who created some of the most striking photographs of adventure and exploration ever taken.
Perhaps best known for his Antarctic work with Douglas Mawson and Ernest Shackleton, he was also an accomplished wartime photographer who conveyed the grim horrors of trench warfare in WW1 and documented the campaigns of the Australian Imperial Force in the Middle East during WW2. His immoderate bravery, larrikin spirit and mad pursuit of perfection ruffled many feathers over the course of a long career, but he was willing to go to almost any lengths to capture the images he wanted.

Frank Hurley was a storyteller and an artist well ahead of his time. His career spanned the period from the Kodak Brownie and silent film to Kodachrome and Technicolour travelogues. His use of constructed images (that, is multiple images superimposed to create dramatic effect) was seen as controversial, but it was an early sign of how determined Hurley would be to create emotion and drama, using photography as his toolbox.

Hurley can also be seen as an early practitioner of what Hunter S. Thompson would much later call ‘gonzo journalism’, that being an art form in which the artist is a participant in the story, often telling it in the first person. There’s no argument but that Hurley did this: throwing himself into battle, onto the ice, up in airplanes or into the jungle to bring back the experience of being there to the rest of us. He used photography to tell his stories and has left us with some of the most famous images of the early 20th century.

The Frank Hurley Photography Awards exists to celebrate that legacy and to seek out contemporary photographers who can harness the power of the camera in the way that Frank Hurley made unforgettable.

In five categories, judged by a panel of highly qualified professionals, we will offer substantial prizes and for one overall winner, the trip of a photographic lifetime to Antarctica with Chimu Adventures.
